Yucatan and Campeche Experience from Cancun: Three Day Tour of the Mayan World

DAY 1. (WEDNESDAY) CANCÚN – UXMAL – MÉRIDA

Your Yucatan tour starts bright and early departing Cancun in your comfortable air-conditioned transportation. You’ll meet your friendly guide as you make the drive from Cancun to Uxmal, they’ll ensure your safety, education and fun for the entire journey. First stop is a guided tour of the Uxmal Mayan ruins, one of the most important cities in Mayan history. Its monumental urban conception, impressive architecture and artistic Puuc-style ornamentation have earned it recognition as a World Heritage Site. Here we will visit “The Governor’s Palace”, “The Quadrangle of the Nuns” and “The House of the Turtles”.

After finishing lunch in Uxmal, we will go directly to the city of Mérida, founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo, and built on the site of an ancient Mayan city. In your guided tour of Mérida we will have a panoramic look and visit to the historic center and its modern avenues, such as Paseo de Montejo, with its design inspired by the Campos Elysées of Paris. The “White City” of Yucatan, Merida is ancient times and modern life rolled into one, five centuries of history and culture to amaze you.

At the end of the Merida tour, we will register at the hotel and have the afternoon free to explore the city and try a delicious typical dinner of the region in a restaurant.

DAY 2. (THURSDAY) CAMPECHE

After breakfast at your Merida hotel, we make our way to San Francisco de Campeche, a walled city with great historical significance. Founded in 1540 by the Spanish conquistadors and fortified in a hexagonal way to protect its inhabitants from the constant attacks of pirates, Campeche offers a beautiful and unique look at history. We will enjoy a panoramic guided tour of Campeche that will allow you to really get to know this historic city.

After the guided tour of Campeche, you’ll walk through the colorful streets and visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception which has a baroque style and is an example of Campeche Colonial architecture. We will move to the Plaza Independencia where we will have free time to try the typical local cuisine. At the end of your tour to Campeche, we will return to the city of Merida, where we will stay in the hotel for the night.

DAY 3. (FRIDAY) MÉRIDA – CHICHÉN ITZÁ – CANCÚN

After breakfast in your Merida hotel we will start the day very early visiting Izamal, a Colonial town founded in 1553 by Franciscan monks where all the houses are painted yellow. In this place, you will have a panoramic tour and visit the Convent of San Antonio de Padua, which is considered to be the second largest atrium in the world, just behind St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.

Finally, we will leave for the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, the most famous Mayan city in the world declared a World Heritage Site in 1988 by UNESCO and a New Wonder of the World since 2007. This archaeological zone is surrounded by mysticism and history, you will be amazed with its incredible architecture, the Main Esplanade, the Observatory, the largest Ball Court in Mesoamerica, the Courtyard of the Thousand Columns, the Temple of the Warriors and the Sacred Cenote, as well as the spectacular Pyramid of Kukulcán.

After your fascinating guided tour of Chichen Itza, you’ll have time for a delicious lunch of Yucatecan cuisine before returning to the city of Cancun.
